What is a shade profile?

A shade profile shows when and where a trail is shaded from the sun.

A location along a trail is shaded when mountains, valley walls or buildings* block the sun.

A shade profile is unique for each date because the sun's position changes throughout the year.

*Shade profiles do not include shade from trees.
